Head First Web Design Giveaway
Head First Web Design has been out for about three months now and by all available measures, it’s done pretty well. We’ve received some great Amazon reviews, talked with lots of loyal Head First readers via email and through the forums and for a new author like me, it’s all been an incredibly gratifying experience.
To say thanks and to see some of the copies I received be put to good use teaching someone web design (instead of collecting dust on my bookshelf), I’m going to giveaway two free copies. All you have to do is write a comment on this post briefly explaining how Head First Web Design might help you or someone you know create better, more useable websites. Next week, I’ll pick the two best responses and send them each a fresh new copy of the book.
Note: US residents only. Unfortunately, I can’t ship to international addresses. Please make sure you enter a valid email address when you post your comment so I can get in touch with you. Also, please don’t write your address in the comment—I’ll contact you for that information if you win.
Update: This contest has ended. Congratulations to the winners.

Hi! I am actually from the UK so am not eligible for the competition, but just wanted to say that it looks like a great book and I will be checking it out! (Saw this on twitter and thought I’d just pop in a post to let you know)

I basiclly want to take my site (www.beallfp.com) to the next level, I literally just ordered the Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML today which I found from a post at Kathy Sierra’s old site Creating Passionate Users. Yours was one of the next for me to order and read after I finished the other one.

I have been trying to learn good web design practices for two years. I, somehow, became good at programming, and missed out on the actual designing. One of the reasons that happened was I SUCK at drawing! I never had that ability/hobby. Whenever I look around the web for inspiration, I saw these nice drawings, shapes, and that might have discouraged me. Then lately I have been looking at some professional websites, and their simplicity have dazzled me. So, I thought maybe I could start creating those nice and simple designs and then build up to more complex ones, after I got the accepted design practices down. I think the Head First Web Design book is made just for that. I’ll check out the public library if they have a copy as I’m from Canada, and don’t qualify for this giveaway.

Man, now I feel bad for excluding people outside the US. Let’s see how this shapes up the rest of the week and maybe I can make an exception for my UK and Canadian friends. My main concern is that the book reaches the people that win and that the shipping costs are not 4x the value of the book itself.

I would love to have your book. I am here in the states and need some help. I work for a e-commerce store and I need to improve my skills that can further the design of site. Plus I need to do my own site.

If I could choose to learn any other skill right now, it would be web design. I’ve gotten by on basic html knowledge, but if I knew just a little bit more (okay a lot more CSS), I’m sure I could take the world by storm. And that would be pretty awesome.
Thanks!

I would love a chance to read your book. I recently started a new job where my main responsibility is to create and help update 43 of our member’s credit union websites. I’ve become really good at the simple text, PDF and Graphic additions. However, I would like to learn how to master designing an effective and enticing website. We are getting to do a major overhaul on our company’s website also (www.volcorp.org) and this would help us come up with totally new and amazing layout/design.

Not only was having you and Ethan as teachers a great experience, but I truly value both of your inputs on the creation of any web experience. I think knowing about the whole design/development process
and why certain things matter, can only make you better at your area of specialty (design, develop, IA, usability, etc.). Not only do I think your book would be a great read, but also a great reference for a web design/development student like myself who is soon to graduate and hopefully find a job to assist in the creation of web sites/applications/etc.

Web Design is the one ‘piece of the puzzle’ that is missing for me right now — while I don’t think I’ll ever become an ‘expert’ I would like to be pretty darn good. Right now my skills consist of basic HTML and CSS editing, mostly trial and error. Being in the process of launching my first startup company, I would love to be able to have some resources to ‘teach myself’ how to (better) design things on the web. It’s the one thing holding me back from taking over the world! Would love to check out your book and what you have to offer. Help a brotha out!

Two more days to get a comments up. At the end of the day on April 15th I’m going to close the comments and pick the winners.
